It is reasonable to expect that any pistol-evaluation piece covering "options in self defense" would focus on a range of semi-automatics that combine power with portability. For this test, we chose the $1059 Kimber Stainless Target .38 Super, Heckler & Koch’s $879 P2000 V3 .40 S&W, and a Sigarms factory certified pre-owned P226, which came with both .40 S&W and .357 Sig barrels, $699.

Self Defense Handguns
We picked Kimber’s $1059 .38 Super Stainless Target II over the $879 Heckler & Koch P2000 V3 and a certified pre-owned Sigarms P226 .40 S&W/.357 Sig combo pistol, $699. The Kimber was about one-quarter second faster than the the HK and Sigarms pistols in our action test. But we give props to the P226 in .357 Sig, which produced the most consistent power, and the P2000 V3, which was the most accurate.
