Daley Pushing New Gun Ban Measure

Chicago is fighting to keep its 1982 handgun ban, even as suburbs such as Wilmette and Morton Grove are throwing in the towel.

In fact, Daley is talking about drafting yet another ordinance to spell out the responsibilities and liabilities of homeowners in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark decision to overturn Washington D.C.'s handgun ban.

He wants to know just how far the Supreme Court is prepared to go to protect the 2nd Amendment.

In a 5-to-4 decision issued June 26, the Supreme Court overturned the Washington D.C. handgun ban on grounds that the 2nd Amendment guarantees the right to possess a handgun in your home for self-defense. Daley called it a 'frightening' ruling that harkens 'back to the Old West.'

Chicago's Corporation Counsel Mara Georges has expressed confidence that a federal judge would dismiss lawsuits the NRA has filed to overturn Chicago’s ban.

She told aldermen this week that Chicago's handgun freeze was 'not invalidated' by the Washington D.C. ruling because three prior Supreme Court decisions have 'found that the Second Amendment does not apply to state and municipalities.' Washington D.C. is a federal jurisdiction.

I would like to thank unevrno for the time he took to set some of my words to an inspiring message completmented with inspiring music. I commend downloading his link to all who read the comments on these pages. Our message must be spread! If you are, or if you know, a gun
owner who is not a member of the NRA, your/their course of action must, at the minimum be to join up now.

I carry copies of the Constitution/Bill of Rights in my briefcase and hand them out quite often. If you look around you can find stacks of free copies just waiting to be handed out. One subject that has not been discussed in this thread and that is the next generation and fear of guns that they are taught in school. I'm an NRA Instructor for gun safety; pistol shooting;self protection in the home; and firearm carry (not just concealed) and we all need to teach the young that will be in charge when we are old. If you teach one youth the interest spreads to all of their friends. Some parents are not happy with me but most are. Gun safety is not taught in school so it's up to all of us to teach our kids and their friends about the Constitution and Bill of rights and the personal sacrifices to enforce it. They need to know that there are people ready and willing to take our freedoms away if we let them by doing nothing. Let's all be teachers for our futures sake.

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people."

How much more clear can you get? If the "power" in this case 2a is delegated to the people, then it can not be delegated to the any government; federal, state, or local.

----------

Tomas B,

You couldn't be more right. The problem is that very few of us know the constitution. Very few Americans know when something is unconstitutional.

When I started this job (that I am at now) not one co-worker could even name the first 10 amendments to the constitution. Most of them only knew (and loosely) two or three out of ten of the amendments in the bill of rights.

Well, at least now I can ask all the men, and if they don't know them in order, they know them in general. I posted them on the back of the stall door in the bathroom. I know they are going to read it when they are taking a sit. I would encourage everyone to take up the idea and re-introduce America to her constitution. It is only once the people are awake that they can react.

We must make their devotion to the Bill of Rights the gold standard by which we judge who we allow to represent us. We cannot continue to elect on what a politician will give us. We must make them adhere to the Bill of Rights or face return to private life to live under the ridiculous laws they have passed pandering to those who will enrich them. We must vote the Bill of Rights each and every time. The first question every candidate should be required to answer is their interpretation of the Bill of Rights. If they show any propensity toward flexibility with our freedom, we should make sure they never reach any elected office. we cannot afford to allow elections to be bought with promises of giveaways. Our Fore-Fathers gave us a system of government as close to perfect as mortals can design. It's only when we deviate from their instruction that we get into trouble. Every crisis we have endured in our history can be traced back to greed and dishonor by our politicians. If every politician subjected his/her actions to a test based on the Bill of Rights as written, we wouldn't be in our current condition.

What a lot of people don't seem to understand is that the only alternative in America to a free and armed society will be a new revolutionary war, as the gun owners will only allow so much repression before they realize that the time has come for the second use of firearms, to retake and reestablish our freedoms from the hands of a repressive government.

This was one of the original premises of the 2nd Amendment, that Americans might remain a free people.

We can either retain our freedoms by our vote, or we will one day have to retake them with our guns.

I realize that many supporters of our cherished Second Amendment have been disillusioned with the NRA in the past. In almost every single case where some feel the NRA has "compromised" too much in defense of the RKBA, it has been in turning a terrible and sometimes outrageous attack on the Second Amendment into a palatable law.

In many cases, I get angry at some of the diatribes coming from Larry Pratt and GOA. Sometimes it seems as if Larry Pratt believes the NRA is the enemy and not VPC or the Brady Center.

Larry Pratt and GOA are very welcome dogs in this fight, believe me, but GOA must stop biting the ass of the bigger dog. We've got to work together and take back the Second Amendment intended for us by the Founding Fathers.

I am related to President John Adams, his son and President John Quincy Adams, John's cousin and the Father of the American Revolution Samuel Adams and I can trace my roots to no less that three Mayflower families.

One member of my ancestry fought the British in the Massachusetts Militia at the very beginning of the Revolutionary War.

It's now my time to hold high the torch of freedom and liberty. Won't you join me? Pro-gunners MUST stop watching the battle from a nearby hillside and think that they're making a difference. Mere observers have never made a difference.

The people of Illinois must stand up and demand their Constitutional rights via the ballot box. Examine your representation and directly question them as to why they consider you to be an inferior people who cannot be trusted with their God-Given and Constitutionally protected rights. Fight back via the ballot box and elect representation that doesn't consider each of you to be incapable of governing your own life. Citizens of New York and California you too can accomplish the same, but you must work together and ignore the propaganda and half-truths of the Elitist Media and ask yourselves "Why am I denied my rights? Why am I considered an inferior Citizen of this Nation?" Vote your rights back and jealously guard them against those who would lead you to believe the loss of freedom is necessary for the public good.

Thank You Marc at SaveTheGuns for getting the word out and recruiting NRA members, your a great American. This man has the key to victory, we must get more NRA members. We all need to recruit more NRA members. We all shoot with people who don't belong for various reasons. We need to work on these people. Marc has special NRA memberships for those that cannot afford full memberships. We need to put more pressure on our fellow shooters to help us fight the fight. Remember there is strength in numbers.

First of all, D.C. v Heller is the beginning of a new battle. A battle in which pro-gunners should be on the rampage. Those who support the Second Amendment should DEMAND that unconstitutional laws be immediately repealed. The time for America's gun owners to sleep is now over. It's time to wake up America and take back our Second Amendment.

Unfortunately, ninety six percent (96%) of America's gun owners remain asleep and are not active members of the National Rifle Association.

I'm currently one of the top ten NRA Membership Recruiters in the United States and I'm meeting with Wayne LaPierre next Wednesday. I have recruited 307 members for the NRA by myself.

It's time to wake up.

More proof that the battle will never end - it's ongoing and we can't let down our guard for one moment. We can still celebrate our victories at the same time to help keep the possitive attitude though.

Amen Thomas B. Take a look at my comment regarding the DC council's attempts to flaunt
the Supreme Court's decision regarding "Heller v DC" in the previous article. Daley and his Chicago mob are so used to muscling people into compliance with his left wing dictates,
that he and his ilk are trying to convince us that Chicago and Illinois are not part of the United States of America. This is truly as asinine as it gets! Daley is acting in the
same vein as Nikita Kruschev did back during
the Cold War. Those who can remember can still picture Kruschev banging his shoe on the table at the United Nations General Assembly yelling
"We will bury you!". Well, folks.....we stuck to our beliefs, and we stared down the "Evil Empire", watching it collapse of its own misguided weight. We must be prepared to do the same to any of the left wing tyrants who are spawned in America. To do otherwise, is to allow them to "bury us". Once again.....the
price of freedom is eternal vigilance!

King Daley and his royal court need to be advised Illnois is one State of fifty, not a monarchy. The Constitution of the United States is applicable to all fifty states and by joining the Union Illinois agreed to be governed by the provisions of that Constitution. Until Osama Obama is elected and declares the Constitution null and void (which he is planning) and turns this country into a Police State even Mayors must obey the law, no matter what his flunkys tell him. A court jester with a law degree is still a fool. We the people must fear Osama Obama with the same trepidation we once reserved for the USSR. His agenda is no less dangerous to our liberty and allowing a traitor access to the power of our Presidency is nursing a viper to our breast and will yield the same result. If 200+ years of freedom and liberty is to go down, let us not be the authors of our own destruction. The Elitist Media will continue to spew its liberal propaganda and hide the truth about this man. Please let us show our love of country and freedom at the ballot box and turn this danger away from us. Osama Obama has nothing but contempt for the citizens of this country. Show him our comtempt at the ballot box.

This is a perfect example of how Liberals do not respect the law. They feel that the laws do not apply to them and that their individual agenda is more important than your rights. Anyone out there voting Democrat this election is disillusioned. They talk about tyranny, when in fact, they are the ones to be feared. They want to take away your guns and they proved the laws mean nothing to them. That does not sound like the type of people that the free people of the great USA need leading this country. Be smart election day, don't be disillusioned by the marketing campaign of change.

I am not a lawyer, but I think it will take a court case like this to settle the "incorporation" issue. The Supremes have interpreted the 14th amendment to mean that the bill of rights protections, that originally only applied to the federal government, thereafter applied to the states as well. While this has been well-established with regard to the other enumerated rights, it has not yet been established with regard to the 2nd amendment.

The 3 decisions referred to above preceded incorporate the first eight amendmendments

Hey, Mara!!! The 2nd Amendment applies to U.S. citizens, whereever they live ... it's impossible to even imagine that the founders meant 2A to apply only to Washington, DC, since of course it didn't exist in its current form back then. The Bill of Rights is there to protect the rights of all US citizens, not just those living in the murder capital of the country.
