Remington Announces Three New 798 Bolt Action Rifles

Madison, NC – In 2006, Remington introduced a line of bolt action centerfire rifles based on the classic Model 98 Mauser-style action. For 2008, the Model 798 SPS (Special Purpose Synthetic); Model 798 Satin Walnut Stock; and Model 798 Safari Grade. Available in 243 Win, 270 Win, 308 Win, 30-06 Sprg, 7mm Remington Mag and 300 Win Mag in the SPS and Satin Walnut versions; and 375 H&H Mag and 458 Win Mag in the Satin Walnut and Safari Grade versions.

At the core of these Model 798 bolt-actions are the rock-solid Mauser 98 action with claw extractor for true controlled round feeding; hammer-forged, carbon steel barrels with blued finish; one-piece solid steel trigger guard/magazine assembly with hinged floorplate and steel magazine follower; rubber recoil pad; sporter-style, single-stage trigger with side mounted 2-position safety; and sling swivel studs. Receivers are drilled and tapped for standard Mauser 98 scope mounts.

Model 798 SPS (Special Purpose Synthetic) – This durable version features a weather-resistant, black synthetic stock with clean 22-inch carbon steel barrel on standard calibers and a 24-inch barrel length on the magnum offerings. The receiver and barrel have a blued finish. Available in 243 Win, 270 Win, 308 Win, 30-06 Sprg, 7mm Remington Mag and 300 Win Mag. Suggested retail price: $527 – $570

Model 798 Satin Walnut Stock – Housed in a satin-finished American walnut stock, this version offers a more traditional look and feel. Each action is epoxy glass bedded to further improve shot consistency and accuracy. Available in 243 Win, 270 Win, 308 Win, 30-06 Sprg with shorter 22-inch barrels; 7mm Remington Mag and 300 Win Mag with standard 24-inch barrels; and 375 H&H Mag and 458 Win Mag with 26-inch barrels. The action is fit into our RealWood “B” Grade Walnut laminate stock. The Safari Grade stock features Realwood construction, a process that bonds two pieces of high grade walnut and one piece of maple with carbon fiber reinforcement. The result is a handsome, extremely durable wood stock. The compact 22-inch rifled sighted barrel is ready for those up close encounters or with the receiver drilled and tapped, adding a scope is easy. Available in 375 H&H Mag and 458 Win Mag.
