Staying Out of the Crosshairs

ABC's 20/20 ran a hit piece on firearms and firearms' owners on Friday evening.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation was asked numerous times by 20/20 Senior Producer Muriel Pearson to participate in the story, but understanding the piece was a set-up, the gun-industry group refused.

“After pointing out to Ms. Pearson that our refusal to participate in the program did not absolve her team of their responsibility to ask hard-hitting questions of those supporting gun control, we supplied 20/20 with information on the more than 20,000 gun laws on the books and data from the Department of Justice and Bureau of Justice Statistics related to firearms,” said NSSF Director of Public Affairs Ted Novin.

ABC's 20/20 Piece on Firearms

"Unfortunately, given 20/20's refusal to disclose any of the information we provided -- information that interfered with their already pre-established and desired anti-gun conclusion -- it has become all too clear that journalistic impartiality on firearms issues at 20/20 is limited to John Stossel," Novin said.

A lie is still a lie and:
Political correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

The trouble is that lib...opps, "progressives" don't believe the truth, but only what they hear on msnbc and the like. They forgot that they learned that carbon dioxide is necessary to life, that science is not political. They think obama will "save" them. BS. He doesn't know which way is up. Follow the money and you will see the libs waiting at the feeding at the trough.

Speaking of corrupt media, has anyone heard that if this cap and trade bill passes General Electric stands to make billions of dollars. General Electric just happens to own MSNBC, the network that helped Obama get elected. Seems like MSNBC is a corrupt media source if they stand to financially benefit from one candidate and party.

I only catch a glimpse of these commercials as I scroll from PBS to the Discovery, History and Weather Channels.

this program really bothered me so much I wanted to take Diane Sawer aside and just smack her. How can someone stand there and lie like that, and not be a politician, but then again I guess all the used to be major news shows are all nothing more than a bunch of left leaning political hacks anyway.

Have you seen some of the crap now being advertised on TV? Holy Tapdancing Abraham!

"Male Enhancement" boner supplements (fraud). Lawyers trolling for asbestos and medication plaintiffs. (Bloodsuckers) Weight loss supplements. (fraud) Girls Gone Wild video trash (isn't that guy still in jail?) Billy Mays and Anthony Sullivan braying about the latest garbage (that violates some poor inventor's patent), and the virtually endless stream of conspicuous consumption called "car commercials."

Hell, I've been boycotting TV advertisers for years. Decades, even!

There are some good comments here and I believe the bottom line to be. Do not purchase products they advertise; but do write letters to their sponsors telling them why and if you really want to make a difference...please JOIN THE NRA, SEND THEM ANY AMOUNT OF $ YOU CAN. If not for them the Second Amendment would have been nothing but a memory a long time ago!!!!!

AND PLEASE, PLEASE, JOIN THE NRA. IF YOU ARE ALLREADY A MEMBER, THEN EXTEND YOUR MEMBERSHIP AND/OR MAKE A DONATION. THEY ARE ON THE FRONT LINES AND FIGHTING SO HARD TO HELP PRESERVE THE 2ND AMMENDMENT AND THEY NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GIVE THEM.

It is more impactful if you will boycott the products and the companies who sponsor the biased , liberal news programs AND send those companies a letter informing them that they have lost another customer. If enough of us take that action, that will get their attention.......meanwhile support those companies who sponsor that "Fair and Balanced" news source.

Boycot the TV news, cancel your newspaper subscription, and tell everyone you know why. Get news from the internet and Fox news. It's the only one that can still be somewhat trusted. Journalists have degraded themselves into leftist activists.

With the mainstream media's help, this Mexico deal is going to be the cover of darkness the Obama administration is going to use to pass stricter gun laws and bans.

In an attempt to demonstrate that guns would not be advantageous in a crisis, 20/20 showed only one scenario in which an attacker entered a situation while already shooting. With or without guns, defenders would be hard-pressed to respond positively while at an immediate disadvantage. If they intended to be fair, they would have shown other situations where guns have saved lives or at least, could have.
Example: Luby's Cafeteria, Killeen TX, 16 Oct 1991.

it would not have mattered if they did give the interview. most of the positive things if not all would have eneded up on the editing floor anyway. the best way to get back at these people is to flood the front desk with calls and shut the t.v off. call all the people that advertise on their program and tell them you will not be buying their products. money talks and b---s--- walks isn't that what they say.

Nothing good comes from the liberal (nay "progressive" propagandists at abc. If anyone kept track of the Tea Party yesterday, you will note that all newscasters except on FOX looked for perverted actions from those attending the events. NSSF was very wise to refuse to participate.

This is why the mainstream media, including broadcast TV, is going down the tubes. They have chosen to go out of their way to alienate 50% of their potential customers by becoming nothing more than left wing propaganda purveyors.

The NSSF is wise to refuse to cooperate with the propagandists at ABC, or any other network, for that matter. After all, ABC has been doing nothing on guns and gunowners but hit-pieces since the late 60's, and it's only gotten worse with time.

I hate these liars with a passion.

20/20 is a medicore news program. At one time the show was quite good but content quality and filming have degraded over the years. I'd like to see Nova air a historical documentary on gun ownership in America. I'd cover all the pros and cons and would also include government intervention such as Ruby Ridge and Waco.
