A Laugher: NYT's "Politics of the Gun"

NEW YORK -- When the New York Times is unhappy about guns, gun owners are usually laughing.

See the paper's editorial, "Politics of the Gun." The bleating from the paper's gun haters will make any CCL holder guffaw. In that editorial, the NYT said:

Congress has shamefully caved in, yet again, to the gun lobby and abandoned the effort to grant the long-suffering District of Columbia a voting representative in the House. Hopes for passage were high this year, until the historic measure was poisoned in the Senate with an amendment to strip the district’s government of its power to enact responsible gun control laws.

Sadly, the district’s need for strong controls was dramatized Wednesday when a man the authorities identified as a white supremacist opened fire with a rifle and killed a guard at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Click here to read the rest of the paper's polemic.

Left out of the editorial, of course, was that the man alleged to have committed the crime was a felon, who couldn't possess firearms legally anyway.

Well Jeff, I've wondered when they would get around to registering baseball bats. How will they give serial numbers to rocks ?? And since you can melt polymer coffee cups and make shanks, are ceramic coffee cups with serial numbers next ??

80 million gun owners in America and Liberals focus on a few deranged individuals that commit crimes with guns. The numbers would suggest most gun owners are of stable mind. I spent last summer in NY and was surprised to learn of a new trend. New York has some of the toughest restrictions on guns so most crimes in Utica and Syracuse now consist of stabbings. You still hear of homicide by shooting from time to time but the criminals have mostly turned to knives. Knives aren't as noisy as guns and if I remember correctly a single criminal stabbed six people outside a Syracuse bar. I'm sure Bloomberg will target knives next so I'm left wondering how effective will they be disarming criminals of rocks?

The NYT is only good for one thing, and that is to start a good warm fire in the fire place, or the BBQ, or camp fire, period

IIRC, it was Winston Churchill who said:

"A twenty-year-old who is not a liberal has no heart. A thirty-year-old who is not a conservative has no brain."

It's an old joke, but it bears repeating:
A liberal is a person who is so open-minded that his brains have fallen out!

Wait a minute: private citizens (the guards) and NOT a police officer stopped a crime with a handgun? Impossible, that can't happen.

It is unwise to try and convince a liberal with facts. It only confuses them further, having then a need to start thinking.

The editorial backs up the fact that gun free zones and gun laws only apply to law abiding citizens. If it not for a well placed shot by a heroic security guard that situation would have been way worse. It should also prove the fact that if one citizen would have been armed and the man made it past security that citizen would have been the only defense against a certain massacre.
