USAMU Soldiers Qualify for 2010 World Championships

FORT BENNING, Ga. — Five soldiers from the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit earned berths on the 2010 U.S. World Championship team as well as spots in three 2010 World Cup events after their performances at the 2009 Fall Selection match in Kerrville, Texas.

Sgt. 1st Class Theresa DeWitt became the first soldier from the USAMU to earn a spot on the 2010 U.S. team that will travel to Munich, Germany next summer. DeWitt, a 1996 Olympian, placed first in the Women’s Trap event with a score of 448.

2009 World and National Champion Spc. Vincent Hancock won the Men’s Skeet event with a score of 515 and will defend his crown in Munich. Hancock, the 2008 Olympic Champion in this event, broke two national records in Kerrville, missing only two targets during the qualifying round and three targets overall.

His teammate, Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Dulohery, will travel with Hancock after placing third with a score of 506 and making the U.S. team.

Also qualifying were Staff Sgt. Josh Richmond and Spc. Jeff Holguin in Men’s Double Trap, finishing first and second with scores of 627 and 621, respectively.
