GUN TESTS GRADE: D
This pistol needed a little help out of the box. That said, the SIG is accurate and handles well. Adjustable sights and a checkered front strap are good features. If you're willing to do some light gunsmithing, mentally move the grade up to B.

All pistols were fired for at least a full magazine from the retention position. This is the SIG Sauer.
The SIG's adjustable sights are dovetailed in place. SIG's beavertail grip safety is among the best of the test. The grips also received high marks. We found the fit and finish of the SIG pistol to be excellent. As a target-grade 1911 or a sporting handgun, the SIG 1911 has promise. We considered calling this gun a Best Buy.
This is the flat wire spring that gave us trouble. The pistol short-cycled with the factory-supplied spring with all loads, but the problem was cured with the addition of a Wilson Combat 16-pound recoil spring ($5.56 from WilsonCombat.com).
The SIG 1911 handles well and came on target quickly.
Recoil was noticeable with all handguns, but fine gripstrap checkering helped out.
