The top end consisted of the slide, barrel and recoil assembly with a captured flat-wire recoil spring shown at right. Field stripping was as simple as locking back the slide and rotating the break-down lever.
Two areas of the FNP-40 that we didn't much like were the decocker levers and the upper backstrap shape. The levers stuck out too far from both sides of the gun (top arrow), and the leading edges of the levers could have been dehorned. The squarish backstrap, bottom arrow, irritated the web of the shooter's right hand.
