Gun Report

Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

Due to malfunctions, we had to grade the M&P down. A self-defense gun cannot suffer stoppages. By not rating this gun an F, we recognize that with trouble-free operation, the M&P should prove to be an agile, high-capacity street fighter; we just have to see the reliability for ourselves.

Our test of the M&P was marred by the slide locking back with one round left in the magazine.
Field stripping the M&P pistols required that the sear deactivation lever be pulled forward before the top end can be removed. The pick for reaching the lever was stashed in the backstrap and was part of the grip’s contour.
