The key-operated lock seized the slide and the trigger. The thin upper portion of the extractor acted as a loaded-chamber indicator by bulging outward when a round was in place.
The single dot of the Heinie rear sight was designed to be placed directly below the dot found on the front sight. Hence the name Straight Eight. We found the left-side-only thumb safety on Taurus's striker-fired pistols easier to disengage than to raise to the safe-on position.
