Springfield Armory Sub-Compact XD .40 S&W

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

Not the most graceful gun, Springfield’s Sub-Compact XD-40 shot well enough to get our attention. Note the grip safety, which was unnoticed in use. The Glock-like trigger was the only other safety on the gun. Available in several color schemes, the 3” XD also has an optional, auxiliary attachable light that many will find handy.

Looks like a Glock, and works like one. We liked the XD’s trigger pull despite its high measured weight.
The arrow points to the takedown lever. From this lockedopen position, all that was necessary to take the gun apart was to rotate that lever upward 90 degrees, drop the “hammer,” and take the gun apart. We liked this feature, but it required an opening at the rear of the slide.
