Gun Report

Taurus 617 SSCH .357 Magnum

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

Dollar for dollar, this gun is one of the better arguments for carrying a .357 Magnum revolver. It's more compact than the 686, particularly in terms of height. Its rear sight would also snag less, though that has a trade-off in terms of bullet impact. If this steel gun is produced in a lighter-weight alloy down the road, it will be even better.

The Taurus's hammer has been "de-snagged," a carry plus.
Great grip: The Taurus filled the hand without too much height.
