Winchester Black Shadow & Barrel

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

Winchester's Black Shadow shotgun, $296, didn't make the accuracy grade when configured with a $154 rifle barrel. We believe it ought to remain the great shotgun it is.

Despite its clean lines, right-side ejection, and the slickest action of the trio, the Winchester didn't earn our recommendation when fitted with a rifled barrel. We liked the white triangle on the adjustable rear sight.
The 1300's clean left side shows only the serial number and a glimpse at the adjustable rear sight. We liked the idea behind the notch in the action rear for the buttstock. It ought to stay tight.
The rear sight is a spring with wedge elevation. Windage was by drifting, and we moved it very slightly right. Though sparse, the checkering worked well. This gun self-ejected its empties off the bench.
