ArmaLite AR-10A4 .308

Although this rifle may need a trigger job, if you like the style of the AR-15, this is a natural extension. the AR-10 was a better buy than the Knight SR-25 at half the price, in our view. It got more-than-acceptable accuracy with a common chrome-lined barrel, where the SR-25 had a match tube. We liked the removable carrying handle, and the integral scope rail let us mount whatever we wanted. ArmaLite has lighter versions if you need them, but if you plan lots of shooting, this rifle will let you do so in comfort. This was a well-made and affordable rifle in the AR-15 style.

The carry handle comes off with two thumbscrews. Centering the rear aperture sight first and then moving the front sight base right or left is the correct way to sight in this rifle with iron sights.
We liked the fact that the safety position could be seen from the blind side. Everything worked on this rifle, after a minor mishap with its extractor. The rifle desperately needed a trigger job, but these are easy on this design.
The addition of our scope added to the bulk and size of the AR10, and didn't improve much on the results delivered by our aperture sights.
ArmaLite puts a huge brake onto its AR-10 (left), but the DS FAL, (right), does just as good a job of keeping the kick down. The Knight (center) kicked the most.
