Gun Report

Springfield Armory 1911A1 Parkerized .45 ACP

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

Our Recommendation: This is our first choice. Buy It. The Springfield produced the most consistent accuracy and control. At $648 retail, all the necessary upgrades are in place, including two easy-tousesafeties. This gun should give the makers of comparably priced "wonder" pistols a fit it's so good.

The Springfield shares upgrades with the Kimber but the mag release, backstrap, and slide release are lined, not checkered.
The grip safety is Ed Brown's raised "memory groove" design. This improves the action by helping all size hands deactivate the grip safety.
So many features, so little time. This shot of the grip shows the Ed Brown grip safety, high-grade wood grips, skeletonized trigger, and cut-line mag release. Cost cutting measures include standard grip screws.
The Springfield's Parkerized finish is low profile, less expensive than stainless steel and far more durable than bluing.
