Gun Report

Remington 870 Wingmaster 3 inch 20 gauge

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

Gun Tests Grade: C. This particular presentation of a legendary action is marred by quality-control issues that we find difficult to swallow for the money. Although the 870 action has great appeal, the price and the overall build quality severely dampened our enthusiasm for this particular model.

At the rear of the receiver on both sides of the trigger guard, we were disappointed to find small flecks of stock finish missing. We have never been able to find fault with the basic 870 action and we still canít. We liked the 870ís balance, handling, and stock fit. For the money, we expected what we didnít get: wood that matched in grain and hue, wood without finish flaws, and a usable bead system. all of these things can be attended to, but why should the consumer have to do this himself?
