The Maxus deserves and easily gets an “A.” It is the most versatile shotgun Browning has ever made, and in many ways is the best shotgun the company has ever made.

The sole workmanship flaw we discovered on the Maxus was cosmetic. The Browning Inflex recoil pad was poorly fitted and had rubber strips peeling away from the upper portion of the pad.
The Maxus forearm is slim, trim, and pops on the barrel with a latch more like you’d find on an over/under forearm. Easy to remove and install, it locks itself firmly into place almost automatically.
The Maxus’s magazine cut-off at the left of the receiver was well placed. It stayed out of the way until needed, then was easy to operate quickly.
The Maxus gas system stayed remarkably clean. Here, you can see the gas fouling is restricted to the front of the magazine tube—while the rest of the tube and the action remained almost residue-free.
