Gun Report

Winchester Model 1300 Turkey Win-Cam 3-inch 12 Gauge

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

While the Winchester featured a quality recoil pad, the shoulder shock from using heavy turkey loads, buckshot and slugs in the small shotgun was quite uncomfortable. Since the shotgun performed well with the loads and in most cases, one or two shots would be all that the shooter would fire, the excessive recoil might be an acceptable condition for most owners.

The Winchester’s action release on the on the front of the trigger guard and in front of the safety button was both small and was hard to reach in some shooting conditions. A larger button would have been appreciated by our team, particularly those shooters with larger hands.
Although the laminated wood buttstock and forearm earned marks for attractiveness from some members of our team, the feel of the large forearm was bulky, and the overall balance of the short-barreled shotgun was not as good as the other two pumps in the test. Obviously, this shotgun was set up for turkey-hunting situations more than for use as a wing-shooting or clay-target tool. However, the short barrel also offers the user capable service as a self-defense firearm.
