Gun Report

Yugoslav Tokarev M57 7.62 Tokarev

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

This gun showed original contours and finish, and though it didnít include a holster or spare magazine, it was a much better deal, we thought. After a problem related to our poor cleaning was dealt with, this proved to be a reliable, accurate, and fun handgun. We thought the large-handled safety, in a position where youíd find it on a 1911-type pistol, was useful and permitted proper carry of this single-action handgun. Note the lanyard ring on the bottom of the magazine and frame.

Takedown of the Tokarev is simple. The grips come off by flipping a lever, accessible through the magazine well. Note the full-length guide rod for the slide spring. It is not necessary to remove the barrel bushing to get this gun apart. In fact, itís not possible until the guts are taken out.
The full-length guide rod was in two pieces, held together by a pin that permitted the assembly to bend, which allowed it to be removed from the gun.
