In the field, our junior shooter immediately noticed that the Benelli was lighter than the other shotguns. Together with its slender profile, the Montefeltro was easy to point and quick to move.
The Benelli Inertia Driven system rotated the bolt in and out of the barrel lugs, driven by the force of the ammunition and a powerful recoil or inertia spring. With few components to hide underneath, the forend was slender and graceful. The detent spring was in the retaining cap, and the ratcheting action not only kept the cap in place but also prevented over-tightening.
The Benelli Montefeltro Combo supplied two different-length stocks to accommodate different-sized shooters. According to master shotgun fitter Larry Feland, length of pull can be further modified just by mounting a thicker buttpad. The identical buttpads used wood screws that were captured, making them easier to install.
The angle of the Benelli's stock in relation to the bore line can be dropped or cast to the left or right. This can improve individual fit and save money. The mounting stud is shown locating the stock downward and cast to the right. Rotating and flipping the plate over provided four different positions, high left, high right, low left and low right.
