Pistol cartridges such as the 40 S&W do not have a case rim large enough to keep them from falling into the chambers. Full moon or Stellar Clips, as Taurus calls them, holds each round to the proper headspace. This makes loading and unloading five separate rounds a one-step process. But some brands of ammunition fit into the clips tighter than others.
Taurus added a spring-loaded detent pin to the crane to strengthen lockup. Some wheelguns utilize the tip of the ejector rod for this purpose, but that can cause problems if the ejector rod becomes bent. This was a strong revolver, and we would be comfortable shooting nearly any 40 S&W load in it.
Frame-cut notch rear sights are nearly as indestructible as the frame itself. Note the semi-circle at the very rear. That helps diffuse light. The cylinder latch was contoured to make room for the Stellar clips to pass by. For safe storage, the keyhole behind the hammer tang activated a cylinder that rises to block rearward motion of the hammer.
