We really liked the camouflage coating and the easy way it delivered the heaviest 30-caliber bullets. In our view, a compensator or suppressor would be an absolute necessity for shooting the supersonic rounds. But with or without a suppressor, this combination had something most ARs lack: Fun. Given the compatibility with other AR-15 lowers, buying the M&P15 300 Whisper upper might be the steal of the year for hunting and home defense.

The trigger guard was not hinged for increased access, but it was oversized nonetheless. 300 Whisper ammunition feeds from 5.56mm (or 223 Remington) magazines of any length, so AR- 15 owners should not have to buy additional mags. The supplied magazine held 10 rounds.
The railed gas block allowed the option of adding a front sight. Instead, we mounted a big 6-24x50mm Burris scope. A quick-release 360-degree swivel sling loop and socket (arrow) was supplied. A smaller hole on the bottom of the gas block was tapped for a standard sling stud.
All major components, including the rail, were coated with Realtree APG camouflage. Note how well the pattern flows from the upper to the lower-end components.
