S&W Bodyguard 380 No. 109380 380 ACP, $419 (Sept. 2013)

The Bodyguard had the best integrated laser sight of all the models tested, and it was easy to turn on. There were features we liked on the Bodyguard, and others we did not. When the pistol did not fire the PPU ammo, we took pause, but the ability to keep pulling the trigger and fire the round made us at ease.

In the February 2013 issue we tested and graded three 380 ACP pistols with factory-fitted laser sights óRugerís LCP-LM (Grade: B+), SIG Sauerís P238 Tactical Laser (Grade: B-) and Waltherís PK380 with Laser (Grade: B). We were asked by a reader to test the S&W Bodyguard, shown at left. We found the Bodyguard to be a very concealable pistol with a laser that could be activated easily and quickly.
The activation button was within easy reach of the trigger finger. It needed to be pressed 3 times before it could be turned off.
Adjustments were easy to make: Line up the sights at the zero distance and walk the red dot so it sits atop the front sight. We zeroed it for 15 yards.
This group was fired as fast as possible from about 10 feet using only the laser. What this group does not show is it took 8 pulls of the trigger to create 6 holes. The extra trigger pulls were required for the PPU ammo.
