Google To Block Firearms Ads

0

Beginning next month, online giant Google plans to block firearms, ammunition, and gun-accessory ads. On Googles Dangerous Products or Services page, a company statement reads, This is a preview of the upcoming Policy Center. The policies here will not go into effect until around September and are subject to change. To see the policies in effect until then, visit the current Policy Center.

Well be adding more sections to help you comply with the updated policies, so check this page again around September.

Google outlines its policy as: We want to help keep people safe both online and offline, so we dont allow the promotion of some products or services that cause damage, harm, or injury. Here are some examples of products and services that we consider to be dangerous.
The listed dangerous categories are Explosives, Guns & parts, Dangerous knives, and Other weapons.

Also slated for ban are Recreational drugs & drug-related equipment and Tobacco products & related equipment.

The guns listing in more detail will ban Functional devices that appear to discharge a projectile at high velocity, whether for sport, self-defense, or combat. (Note that we [Google] err on the side of caution and apply this policy to sporting or recreational guns that can cause serious harm if misused, or that appear to be real guns.)

Examples: Handguns, rifles, shotguns, hunting guns, functioning antique guns, airsoft guns, paintball guns, bb guns.

Any part or component thats necessary to the function of a gun or intended for attachment to a gun. Examples: Gun scopes, ammunition, ammunition clips or belts.

My view: I believe gun bigots are attempting to implement a widespread shaming policy to stigmatize gun owners as dangerous people, all because we enjoy using and controlling our firearms products safely. Google seems to be joining that effort.

Moms Frontwoman Gets Facts Wrong Again. I was not surprised to hear Moms Demand Action mouthpiece Shannon Watts get her facts wrong in a June 7 CNN interview with Victor Blackwell. Blackwell said: Where has a bad guy with a gun has been stopped in any other way or by a person other than a law-enforcement officer with a gun or by killing himself? Watts responded: This has never happened. Data shows it doesnt happen. Pushback: The Pearl, Mississippi school shooting was stopped by the vice principal Joel Myrick with a Colt 45 he retrieved from his car. For other examples, search for (not with Google) Appalachian School of Law shooting, Clare Cooper Muskegon shooting, Jeanne Assam and the New Life Church shooting, Santa Clara National Shooting Club, Aniston Shoneys shooting Thomas Glenn Terry, and Early Texas Peach House shooting Vic Stacy. One example refutes Watts never-happened lie. But there are many, many others. GT
