Smith & Wesson Corp. will make three more lightweight J-Frame revolvers — the Model 442, Model 637, and Model 638 — available with factory installed LaserMax CenterFire laser sighting systems. They join the popular Model 642, which was equipped with a factory-installed LaserMax CenterFire laser in January 2015.

The factory-installed CenterFire laser is designed to fit the revolver frame. Located under the bore, the new sight features LaserMax’s Controlled Activation feature, which enables the user to operate from concealment without revealing his or her position.

The LaserMax laser also incorporates ambidextrous tap-on/tap-off activation, a 10-minute auto time-out feature, and the ability to choose a solid or pulsed beam.

“The benefits of having a laser sighting system on your personal self-defense firearm are well known,” said Jan Mladek, general manager of Smith & Wesson and M&P brands. He said the addition of the LaserMax laser sight helps enable positive target acquisition and enhanced accuracy in low-light conditions.

A staple in the Smith & Wesson line since 1952, the J-Frame revolver has served as a backup gun by law enforcement and as a primary self-defense firearm by thousands of licensed permit holders.

The details of the laser-equipped models are on the right.
