Don't Buy Glock Full-Auto Switches

CNN has reported that federal authorities are searching for thousands of conversion devices that render semi-automatic Glock pistols into fully automatic weapons that are considered to be machine guns.

According to CCN, “Brad Engelbert, an ATF spokesman, described the nationwide recovery effort as a ‘high priority’ for the agency, focused on those devices in the possession of ‘people who may be a danger to the community.’”

Engelbert told CNN that while the devices are specifically designed to modify Glock pistols, he stressed that they are not manufactured by Glock. The agency believes the illegally imported devices came from China, in some cases ending up in the hands of convicted felons, CNN reported.

ATF and customs officials in Chicago identified more than 2,900 packages containing conversion devices that are believed to have been shipped into the United States under false customs declarations, according to an affidavit filed in federal court in Rhode Island, CNN reported. PayPal accounts linked to the suspected Chinese exporter revealed more than 3,800 sales transactions by U.S. customers who are believed to have illegally purchased and obtained the devices, according to court records.

CNN reported that agents with the ATF’s Internet Investigations Center recently purchased “multiple” conversion devices from a website “believed to be operated out of China” by one or more suspects, according to the affidavit. The conversion devices were sold for $19.99 each and advertised as “Glock Pistols Select of Switch Full Auto For All Models Glock All Generations. [sic]”

As CNN noted, “It is illegal for civilians in the United States to possess machine guns manufactured after 1986. Ownership of a machine gun made before then requires a federal permit and registration. The small amount of automatic weapons available for purchase has created a niche market in which they can sell for big money.”

The takeaways from this story are many, but the big one for me was, “What?” I had no idea that Glocks were so easily modified to become full auto, so I chased down a few links on the internet to see how it’s done. Basically, it seems, the switches change the sear engagement inside the pistol by using an arm attached to the rear plate. I don’t want to go into it any further than that.

Second, who would be so stupid as to buy one of these things? From China, no less? Seems like a short ride from your PayPal account to the hoosegow. Electronic payment trail, delivery address, and all that. Knock, knock. Who’s there? BATF, that’s who.

If you look up the statute you will learn that there is a catch-them-all termed "constructive intent".
If you were to purchase/possess these parts, and also have available to you/in your possession a firearm that could accommodate the part(s) in question you are then guilty of "constructive intent". Then, whether or not you EVER assemble the evil components to said firearm you are in possession of an unregistered machine gun, which will subject you to huge fines, federal imprisonment, and forever loss of your civil right to the 2nd.

I finally tired of explain the Stupidity of half the nation on ALL Things political / Government and finally developed a FOUR phase rating system of mildly Stupid as ONE Forrest Gump to Four Forrest Gumps, extremely Stupid with an IQ of less than 80. Saves a lot of ink.

For Those of you naysayers, who believe that this is ATF Fear-mongering, Please Google: "Ultimate Glock Meltdown"! You will see with your own eyes what kind of idiot buys this kind of modification and has enough money to run magazine after magazine of ammo through a Glock to cause a catastrophic failure of the handgun. Then he posted it on YouTube for all to see.

IF this is legitimate, any word on the reliability of this Chinese accessory. Sounds awfully fishy.

Interesting that there are over 2,900 people who have never heard the phrase "What could possibly go wrong?". Maybe being caught in possession of an illegal class III firearm (up to 10 years and $100,000)? That applies to just the "switch" too. Hopefully, the ATF will team up with their buddies at NSA and track these future felons down via PayPal.

If you got one, better relocate your dog and family sooner than later. No point in them getting shot too.

who would buy one? Obviously about 2900+ someones who MUST be able to spend hundreds of dollars on ammo to spray all over their private range.. no public range would allow it.. but because GLOCK made a model that is Full Auto- some people gotta have it- legal? illegal? they don't care. And you would be surprised at who those people are!!

Poisonous Chinese pet food, then drywall, now machine pistol conversions. Gee..where do I sign up? Maybe this is a way to promote Darwinism among gang members. BATFE follow the paper trail. Kick a few doors in. If you find a non criminal, take him in as well. Chances are he is too stupid to own a handgun anyway.

I trust you not CNN.
I know that any semiauto can be modified to full auto, sun with just a file.
Will CNN support stiff sentences for MS13 members possessing a modified Glock?

I wouldn't change a thing on my Glocks.
They are perfect the way they came.
Glock Perfection!

If only the BATFE were pro-Second Amendment...Perhaps they could spend their time taking guns from convicted felons and prosecuting them. Maybe they could reduce the time we have to wait for legally-acquired suppressors and SBR's. if they have the information for the people who bought this item, they could send them a letter explaining the illegality of converting the pistols and follow up with those who do not respond. Honestly, though if the BATFE were-pro-Second Amendment they would fight to defend our rights instead of constantly harassing law-abiding gun owners!

My, my, my... Just another song and dance to fuel the anti-gunners with false logic, but just a wee bit enough to strike the match. (so-to-speak).
That being said, why would anyone want to use a Chinese part to install into such a fine piece of machinery as a Glock in the first place?

I am marking today's date and I will check back in a year from now to see exactly how many Glock Machine Gun Pistol Shootings have occurred in the U.S.

Oh no. ATF fearmongering about something that is a nothingburger.

I have no interest in a machine pistol, regular pistols are fine for me. But this sounds like a whole lotta nothing.

'people who may be a danger to the community.'" "The agency believes the illegally imported devices came from China, in some cases ending up in the hands of convicted felons, "

yeah right. They said the same song and dance before. The pro criminals who are technically minded enough to do this kind of mod are few and far between.

If there's a sudden uptick in Glock 18 machinepistol shootings, I'll eat my words, but this is garbage.

But yeah, don't buy one.
