NRA Sues Several Illinois Cities

The National Rifle Association lost no time challenging the Illinois' city of Evanston's handgun ban in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's June 26 decision upholding individual rights of gun owners.

One day after the high court's 5-4 opinion, the NRA filed separate federal lawsuits against the city of Chicago, the city of Evanston, the village of Morton Grove and the village of Oak Park. The court found sections of a Washington, D.C., ordinance incompatible with the rights accorded gun owners by the Second Amendment.

The NRA's lawsuit naming the city of Evanston and Mayor Lorraine H. Morton seeks to strike down the city's 1982 ban on possession of any operative handgun. The lawsuit contends the ordinance infringes on the right of the people to keep and bear arms in violation of the Second and 14th amendments of the U.S. Constitution.

NRA Sues Several Illinois Cities

The Evanston lawsuit was brought by the NRA and three members who live in Evanston. According to the lawsuit, plaintiffs Jonathan Blair Garber and Kevin P. Stanton lawfully own and store handguns outside of the city of Evanston.

"But for ... Evanston City Code, they would forthwith retrieve such handguns to keep them at their residences" and the guns "could then be used for self-protection and the protection of loved ones," according to the lawsuit.

Plaintiff Alan L. Miller and other NRA members would like to keep handguns in their homes for lawful defense against a deadly attack by an intruder. However, they "face arrest, prosecution and incarceration" for violating the Evanston city code.

The only two states are Illinois and Wisconsin.
The other 48 States have carry conceal permits. However, you must remember that not all states such as Michigan will allow you to carry/conceal your firearm with an out of state permit. I may be wrong but this is what I read / interpreted from Michigan's conceal carry law (which also states you must be a resident).

I belive there are only 2 states IL. & WY. that don't have laws where the people can CCW.
In every state where CCW is law there has been no shoot out's & crime has went down.

obama nor jan schakowsky can't put it together that its people that kill not guns/bullets !!

Criminals break the laws that's why they have guns and will always do so. However the responsible law abiding people are forbidden to bear arms to protect themselves.

The two of them (are nuts) so he is a crazy thought....They may even out law us from driving cars/trucks since those can be used as lethal weapons.....

Here is an except from an email Obama had sent to me. If you want it in its entirety I will request to post it on this site. It is too long to post as a comment here.

It is possible to respect the rights of law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen and still enact common sense measures to keep assault weapons off our streets. I support reauthorizing the federal assault weapons ban that expired in September 2004. Investigators found that one of the weapons used by the Virginia Tech killer, a Glock 19, had a 15-cartridge magazine. Under the assault weapons ban, cartridges with a capacity greater than 10 were illegal and were reserved only for the military and the police. That should be the law of the land again.

Please do not Vote for obama !!!!!

Definitely a step in the right direction for a change. I'm glad to see we are starting to take back our country from those radical liberals. I wonder what Obama has to say about those gun laws he helped pass in Chicago are now being deamed unconstitutional?
