Department of Education Buys Shotguns

(GunReports.com)—The Department of Education has placed an official request for bids to fill an order of 27 tactical shotguns.

Yes, the Department of Education is buying riot shotguns.

The full purchase order is available online, here.

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) intends to purchase twenty-seven (27) REMINGTON BRAND MODEL 870 POLICE 12/14P MOD GRWC XS4 KXCS SF. RAMAC #24587 GAUGE: 12 BARREL: 14? – PARKERIZED CHOKE: MODIFIED SIGHTS: GHOST RING REAR WILSON COMBAT; FRONT – XS CONTOUR BEAD SIGHT STOCK: KNOXX REDUCE RECOIL ADJUSTABLE STOCK FORE-END: SPEEDFEED SPORT-SOLID – 14? LOP are designated as the only shotguns authorized for ED based on compatibility with ED existing shotgun inventory, certified armor and combat training and protocol, maintenance, and parts.

The Department of Education has joined the Internal Revenue Service in a disturbing trend of arming government bureaucracies.

Do you think the Department of Education should purchase shotguns?

Well, I'd say shotguns are a good choice if your aim is not real good. They'll most likely be placed back in the gun safe after firing one shell unless they ordered padded shooting jackets.

Well, in any case, it'll be educational! :D

To paraphrase the anitgunners, "what is the DOE afraid of?".

I agree with Gaviota. It has to be the idea of some bureaucratic pinhead looking to expand his fiefdom. Or do the DoE's CPAs don SWAT gear and grab their shotguns to sit down and examine a pile of paper for fraud?

Maybe their finally going to take on the teacher's union.

What is the Department of Education going to do with shotguns that they can't take to any of their "gun-free-zone" schools? Are they building a bunker under the DC office building?

I think this is the pet project of some stupid "tactical" wannabe in the head office.

Perhaps the DOE plans to start a curriculum for the Hitler....oops I mean Obama Youth. When he campaigned, he promised a national security force. One just as strong and well funded as our military. Isn't that why the National Guard and the civilian marksmanship programs were started? I could get behind a National High School Trap or Skeet Program. I see no need for the DOE to have tactical or riot shotguns.

Charles - if that was the case, I don't think there'd be any discipline problems in the schools! ;)

Holy crap, I'm glad I am finished with high school. Back in my day they used a paddle to enforce discipline, now they use a .12 guage.

What I would like to know is "who" says and "why" is this needed.

The Dept of Education is another unconstitutial branch of government. Put the shotguns in the military arsenals and sent the Dept of Ed to the unemployment line.

The Education Dept. has an arsenal? Why? They have no police power or authority that I am aware of. They made no appearances at Columbine or any other school incidents. Is this arsenal just for security at Ed. Dept. buildings or for some other reason?

This is the type of issue that should compel some answers. But will we get any from this "open" administration? Not a chance.

I've also read that these weapons when issued are not required to be transfered by/through an FFL... and no Brady background checks for the recipients...Correct me if I'm wrong...but...WHAT THE HELL is going on here???

When I first read the heading I thought maybe they were going to set up trap shooting teams in the schools but I guess not huh.

27 shotguns doesn't go very far. Then there's this: "compatibility with ED existing shotgun inventory, certified armor and combat training and protocol..." I wonder why....

Hell Yes! Err...I mean who will they be issued to? A chicken in every pot...and a 12 Ga. in every class room???? Might not be a bad idea??!!

Kindest Regards...
