Gun Report

Glock 17 Gen5 9mm Luger

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

The Glock 17 Generation 5 is a credible firearm, but the sum of its parts is not a great leap forward over previous handguns, in our view. We like the new Marksman barrel and the ambi safety. In this shoot out, the Glock 17 suffered when its power and accuracy were compared to the other handguns. We have recently tested the Glock 17 Vickers Tactical and liked it better.

We liked the Glockís new ambidextrous slide-release lever because it will benefit southpaw shooters.
Note recessed crown of the new Marksman barrel. The Gen5 barrels arenít interchangeable with any earlier models. Also, Glock hasnít announced plans for making threaded barrels for the new G17s and G19s.
We like the new flared and beveled magazine well, which should help shooters switch out magazines. Also, the new mags have orange followers.
