GUN TESTS GRADE: A
The finish was well worn, but the used handgun worked well. One of the magazines turned out to have a problem; it failed to lock the slide open on the last shot. Function was faultless otherwise. This is a formidable handgun.

The Springfield XD in our test was worn, which we ignored in our grading of its function. Though one magazine failed to hold the slide back after the last round, a replacement magazine was inexpensive and widely available.
The XD features a chamber-loaded indicator, shown here without a round in the chamber. A chambered round would push the front of the lever upward.
Faster-moving bullets, particularly the 115-grain SIG, seemed to erupt the first water jug in line. The 357 Magnum penetrated more deeply.
