The Springfield Armory XD 9 subcompact offers two safety features to alert the shooter: A loaded-chamber indicator at the rear of the barrel hood (right arrow), and the striker-status indicator protruding from the rear face of the slide (left arrow).
The rear portion of the XD frame offers only steel-to-polymer contact. Steel inserts are in the forward portion of the frame.
