SB prefix means the gun was manufactured in 1999.
The transfer bar (arrow) rises when the trigger is pulled. The hammer must hit the transfer bar, which in turn strikes the firing pin. This allows for safe hammer-down-loaded carry.
The grips on the 817s were soft ribbed rubber, which we liked.
