Design differences between early and current AR-15s are apparent in these two photos. The pre-ban Colt has no forward assist and no protection around the magazine release button. It also lacks the large lump at the rear of the ejection port, which on current rifles serves to bounce ejected empties away from the face of lefthanders. Current rifles have easier-to-use rear sight adjustments. Coltís rifles now incorporate all these features.
