While we don’t doubt the oversized barrel lug of the Winchester is strong, there is nothing to suggest that the other O/U examples tested are not already far stronger than they need to be.
Though well-finished, the Winchester wood is straight-grained—nowhere near the higher-grade wood quality promised. A bigger problem was the buttstock dimensions that didn’t fit our shooters very well. We found the Winchester “high relief” engraving to be muddy.
