Maverick Model 88 12 Gauge Pump Action Shotgun

For the shooter on a budget, the H&R is a far better pick, in our view. Those familiar with the Mossberg line might prefer this shotgun as a beater.

The Maverick 88 is far from ugly as shotguns go. The finish is well done.
The action of the Maverick comes from the Mossberg 500 that is proven in over 50 years of service. For a utility firearm, the Maverick 88 has merit. This is a good truck gun or spare gun.
The plastic trigger housing and forward location of the cross bolt safety were poor features according to our raters. Note the poorly cast safety button.
The solid rubber recoil pad is utilitarian at best. We thought the Pardner’s pad was better at reducing felt recoil.
