Kel-Tec P-11 Parkerized 9mm Para, $377

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

Compact power in spades. The P-11 holds 10+1 rounds of 9mm and can handle the hottest ammo out there. We liked its slightly thicker grip, simple controls and good handling. We didn't like its too- stiff trigger with a sharp front that tried to cut our finger. This one is Parkerized. If you want bluing, it's only $333. With a better trigger this would have got a higher grade.

This gun had the easiest takedown, giving easy access to all these parts for maintenance. With a lifetime guarantee, you'd do well to consider it, if you can make the trigger work for your hands. It came with one mag.
The Kel-Tec P-11 was a potent handful, our team said, and it was the easiest to pocket of this trio because of its lack of a finger extension on the magazine. It's not much bigger than many 380s that we've tested recently, but it has lots more power.
The arrow points to a double off-center strike from the Kel- Tec on a good cartridge. We cleaned the P-11, found nothing wrong, put it back together, and then it consistently struck the cartridges dead center, as shown on the two at left. We had no further problems.
Here's the problem with the Kel-Tec trigger. That too-curved trigger had a sharp front edge and tended to pinch the trigger finger. Then, when the gun went off, it gave us a final gouge that none of our shooters liked.
