the clean lines of the Henry 45-70 gave it a business-like look that we liked. the sights were fast and accurate enough for fast work on big game at close to medium ranges, and all the work on the rifle was well done.

There’s no loading port on the right side of the action. ejection was positive, and worked every time. The rifle has a unique safety system. The hammer is either up or down, and the rifle won’t fire unless the trigger is pressed.
Loading eight rounds was easy. The tang safety permitted safe loading of one more round in the chamber, as desired. Everything about this rifle was very well done, we thought.
The Henry’s large rear aperture sight was fully adjustable for windage and elevation. It’s locked by two opposing screws in the sight base. A smaller aperture that could be removed would be an improvement for some folks.
The white line is a groove in the rear face of the front sight blade. The blade is integral with the base and the barrel band. remember that if you lower it by filing.
