Remington R51 96430 9mm Luger

Read Gun Tests Rating and Recommendation

GUN TESTS GRADE: D
The Remington is priced fairly, and it is accurate enough for personal defense. Some liked the racy lines of the R51. Performance was not impressive; it simply refused to function with one type of ammunition. The trigger was poor, in our opinion, with no discernible reset and some annoying side-to-side motion. We would not purchase this handgun.

The R51 is a distinctive handgun. Wish it had worked better. The Remington R51 simply did not meet our standards for reliability.
We like the design of the rear sight. Loosening that set screw allows the user to drift the sight right or left in the dovetail. It also had a flat forward face to allow the slide to be opened on an available surface.
Once we had a preferred load, the R51 functioned pretty well on the firing range.
Remington R51 markings indicate the pistol can be used with +P loads.
The Remington barrel is grooved for easy grasping during disassembly.
The dual ambidextrous magazine release works fine.
