Brenda Shinn and Emil Milev Finish First in Pistol Events at USA Shooting National Championships

FT. BENNING, Ga. – The Women’s 10m Air Pistol and Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol events were held June 19 at the 2009 USA Shooting National Championships for Rifle and Pistol, with 2008 Olympian Brenda Shinn (Riverside, Calif.) and Emil Milev (Tampa, Fla.) winning their respective events.

Shinn won the national title in Women’s Air Pistol by 20 points, finishing with an overall score of 855.1. Kylie Gagnon (Bozeman, Mont.) took second place with 835.1 and four-time Olympian Libby Callahan (Columbia, S.C.) earned third place with 832.9. Gagnon also took the junior national title, while Hannah Lewis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished second with 827.5 and Courtney Anthony (Lexington, Neb.) took third place with an overall score of 825.1.

In the Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol event, Milev won his first ever USA Shooting National Championship title with a total score of 1349.0 points. U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) members Brad Balsley (Uniontown, Pa.) and Sean Ragay (Buena Park, Calif.) finished in the second and third spots with 1338.4 and 1315.6 points respectively. Christopher Nona (Richmond, Tex.) finished first for the juniors with a score of 933, while Alexander Chichkov (Temple Terrace, Fla.) took second with 919.
