Obama supporters, Muslims

(GunReports.com) — The Texas Department of Public Safety has begun an investigation into a central-Texas concealed-carry-instructor who said in a recent radio advertisement that he wouldn’t teach the handgun course to a “socialist liberal,” people who voted for the “current campaigner-in-chief,” or to a “non-Christian Arab or Muslim.”

In a radio ad for his concealed handgun course instruction, Crockett Keller, the owner of Keller’s Riverside Store in Mason, Texas, promises to teach students how to “be a victor, not a victim” — unless you are an Obama supporter or a Muslim.

About 45 seconds into the ad, Keller says: “If you are a socialist liberal and/or voted for the current campaigner-in-chief, please do not take this class. You have already proven that you cannot make a knowledgeable and prudent decision as required under the law,” said Crockett in the advertisement. “Also, if you are a non-Christian Arab or Moslem, I will not teach you the class. Once again, with no shame, I am Crockett Keller, (325) 347-0055. Thank you and God bless America.”

Keller said he decides how to conduct handgun classes. “I’m exercising my right to choose who I instruct in how to use a dangerous weapon,” Keller told GunReports.com in a telephone interview.

The initial $175 advertisement ran on Mason’s radio station KHLB for six days.

After hearing of Keller’s ad, The Texas Department of Public Safety released this statement:

“The Texas Department of Public Safety certifies individuals to teach coursework and provide training required to be taken by individuals seeking to qualify for a Texas concealed handgun license. Certified instructors are required to comply with all applicable state and federal statutes. Conduct by an instructor that denied service to individuals on the basis of race, ethnicity or religion would place that instructor’s certification by the Department at risk of suspension or revocation.

“The Department became aware of the statements in question yesterday and has begun an investigation into the matter. The Department will take appropriate administrative action based on the findings from the investigation.”
