Tight Supply Keeps Kimber Custom SIS RL Prices High

Kimber’s Custom SIS RL recently won a test of three 45s in the February 2008 issue of Gun Tests, earning an A- rating. One of the concerns the Gun Tests staff had about the gun was its price, a list of $1421. Based on our research, tight supply seems to keep the gun’s price up.

A search of www.Gunbroker.com found a handful of the guns with current bid prices only a $100 below the MSRP cited in the GT article.

On Thursday Aug. 18, there were 4 active listings for the gun, with prices ranging from $0 on a no-reserve auction to $1299 for a “buy now” price on Auction # 107789717.

The lowest price was in Auction # 107374029. The NIB gun had no reserve, but a starting bid of $1159.99, the lowest bid the seller would accept. In the auction description, the seller said, “Auctions may end early due to item being sold in my store front. We try to keep all auctions current. If you call me and notify my of your intent to bid, I will check to see if item is still in stock, and then pull it off the self once you bid, so it won’t get sold out from under you. Nothing is worse than winning a hard to find gun, and come to find out dealer doesn’t have it. We try to avoid this at all cost, your help is appreciated. If gun is sold in store after bidding starts, current high bidder will be notified via email.”

In the Gun Tests review, the testers said, “We’re sold on the looks and the performance of the SIS. Its sights were some of the best we’ve found, and its well-coordinated ergonomics helped the gun respond to the shooter like a magic wand. But we’d have to figure out a way of adding real cocking serrations without ruining its looks. We do appreciate the high quality eight-round magazines, but why does the finish have to be slippery?”
