(GunReports.com) -- An on-going attempt by the Associated Press to obtain the names of 1.3 million Illinois gun owners is nothing more than an effort to violate their privacy and expose them to possible harassment, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

(GunReports.com) – U.S. Congressmen Dan Boren of Oklahoma and Denny Rehberg of Montana have successfully amended H.R. 1, the Fiscal Year Continuing Appropriations Act for FY2011, to prohibit the use of federal funds for a new and unauthorized regulation currently being proposed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). The Boren-Rehberg amendment prevents the ATF from circumventing the will of Congress by centralizing records of thousands of Americans’ rifle purchases without any legal authority.

In many instances, these organizations lent their name in support of specific campaigns to pass anti-gun legislation such as the March 1995 HCI 'Campaign to Protect Sane Gun Laws.' Many of these organizations were listed as 'Campaign Partners,' for having pledged to fight any efforts to repeal the Brady Act and the Clinton 'assault weapons' ban. All have officially endorsed anti-gun positions.
