Smith & Wesson’s M&P45s continue to win new converts. A test of the gun in the January 2008 issue of Gun Tests rated it as an “A-“ pick. A search of Gunbroker.com found a handful of the guns with current bid prices below the $619 MSRP cited in the GT article.

On Thursday Aug. 14, there were 7 listings for the gun, with prices ranging from $0 on a no-reserve auction to $520 for a “buy now” price on Auction # 107338063, due to expire 8/16 @ 7:53 p.m.

One gun that stood out was in Auction # 107235163. It had a custom trigger job with a 4-pound pull and “sharkskin” stippling on front and three backstraps, mag release, left index point, striker cover and trigger face. It came with six magazines, 3 unused.

In the Gun Tests review, the testers said, ” We liked a lot of things on the M&P45. Of course, to start it was slightly cheaper than the Glock and $600 cheaper than the H&K. It had impressive fit, finish, and cosmetics. The gun is ambidextrous. Where the M&P gained an edge was in its 1911-style ambi safety paddles. The gun can be made safe loading, unloading, or working the slide.”
