(GunReports.com) — The NRA National Firearms Museum will open its doors free of charge on Saturday September 28, 2013, as a part of Smithsonian magazine’s ninth annual Museum Day Live! A nationwide event, Museum Day Live! offers free admission to visitors presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket at a participating museum or cultural institution.

The event represents Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone. Participating museums emulate the policy of the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. by providing free admission. Last year’s event drew over 400,000 participants, and this year’s event expects record-high participation.

“We are proud to be a part of Smithsonian magazine’s Museum Day Live! and encourage all museum lovers to come learn the pivotal role firearms played in our country’s history,” said Museum Director Jim Supica. “Our wonderful dioramas and interpretive displays are sure to spark your patriotic imagination.”

The NRA National Firearms Museum is home to the finest firearms collection in the world. More than 2,700 of some of America’s most significant firearm treasures are showcased through 15 galleries spanning six centuries. Join Senior Curator Doug Wicklund at 1:00 PM for a guided tour to explore the firearms that helped forge our freedom and build our nation.

Museum Day Live! tickets are available to download at Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present a Museum Day Live! ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.
