Who Do You Want as the Next US AG?

0

President Trump has fired Attorney General Pam Bondi. Many gun-rights groups didn’t like Bondi, who they say came in with a weak 2nd Amendment record and didn’t improve gun rights as AG. Now Trump has the chance to get it right. The next attorney general can end enforcement of every Biden-era ATF rule, settle pro-gun litigation with binding commitments, and stop defending unconstitutional gun laws in court. But if we gunowners give Trump a mulligan on Bondi, will he get it right next time?

Well, Gun Owners of America is making it easy for you to register an opinion on who should be the next U.S. attorney general. GOA is supplying a digital letter you can affix your email and name to and send it to President Trump. Now, I get that you might not want to fill out the GOA form because they could easily harvest your email, or the site that’s hosting the email form, OneClickPolitics.com based in Washington, D.C., could collect the emails. But I filled out the form and sent the letter (sorry Bob Jones in Houston with a Gmail account) to see what happened. I didn’t get a return email verification, but I didn’t expect one because I didn’t supply my real email address. (But Mr. Jones might have gotten a confirmation. Sorry about that.)

If you don’t want to spoof your details, I’ve reproduced the letter below, and you can keystroke it yourself. Or copy the letter from the Gun-Tests.com site. Then paste the content on the “Contact Us” page at WhiteHouse.gov. Or grab a crayon and yellow legal paper and write it out and send it via the U.S. mail. Your call. Here’s the GOA letter:

Dear President Trump: With the departure of Attorney General Pam Bondi, you now have an extraordinary opportunity to deliver on the promises that energized millions of gun owners in 2024. I urge you to appoint a new attorney general who will finally bring the Department of Justice into full alignment with your pro-Second Amendment agenda.

The record speaks for itself. Under the previous leadership at the DOJ:

• Biden’s “ghost gun” regulation was never rendered moot, despite a clear opportunity to do so before the Supreme Court.

• The ATF’s pistol brace ban continues to be enforced against law-abiding gun owners, even after a federal court vacated the rule.

• Biden’s universal background check rule remains on the books, with DOJ working to keep it in place rather than letting it lapse.

• DOJ continued defending the NFA’s registration requirements, even after Congress eliminated the $200 tax that served as their legal basis.

Mr. President, gun owners did not vote to preserve the status quo at the Department of Justice. We voted for you to de-weaponize federal power and reorient the DOJ toward protecting our constitutional rights.

Please appoint a new attorney general who will be a true champion for the Second Amendment, someone who will put constitutional rights first and finish the job you promised to do.

I’ve already folded up my yellow legal paper and sent it in, along with a few potential candidates for him to consider. I hope Ted Nugent is waiting near a phone. — Todd Woodard
