FBI Releases December 2010 NICS Figures

(GunReports.com) -- The FBI has released its National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figures for December 2010. NSSF-adjusted figures (1,133,371) show a 9.9 percent increase over NSSF-adjusted figures from December 2009 (1,031,344). For calendar year 2010, the NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 9,436,182 is a decrease of 1 percent over the NSSF-adjusted figure of 9,534,131 in calendar year 2009.

ATF’s New Reporting Requirement to Jump to Long Guns

(GunReports.com) -- ATF is moving to require 8,500 federally licensed firearms retailers along the Southwest border to report multiple sales of modern sporting rifles beginning Jan. 5. Specifically, the ATF requirement calls for these retailers to report multiple sales, or other dispositions, of two or more .22 caliber or larger semi-automatic rifles that are capable of accepting a detachable magazine and are purchased by the same individual within five consecutive business days.

Forest Service Considers Banning Gun Hunting in Parts of Michigan

Illinois: Cook County Semiauto Ban to be Reconsidered Under ‘McDonald’

The case of Wilson, et al. vs Cook County et al., was returned to the State Appellate Court pursuant by the state Supreme Court, which also ordered the First District Appellate Court to vacate its decision and reconsider the case based on the recent decision in McDonald vs. City of Chicago.

DOJ Inspector General Report Recommends Multiple-Sales Reporting on Long Gun Sales

(GunReports.com) -- The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has recommended that ATF impose multiple-sales-reporting requirements for long guns. In a report issued Monday, the OIG made 15 recommendations for changes and improvements to ATF’s Project Gunrunner (PGR) initiative on the “illicit trafficking of guns from the United States to Mexico.” The long gun reporting recommendation echoes a past proposal made by the anti-gun Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) coalition in its ”Blueprint for Federal Action on Guns (2009).”
