Here we are looking at two 1911-type handguns generally known as Commander types. A Commander, as originally introduced in 1950, is a 1911 pistol with a shorter barrel and slide but a full-size firing grip. The original was an aluminum-frame handgun. Beginning in 1970, a steel-frame option was offered, and today, the heavier Commander is the more-popular variation among shooters.
