0

(GunReports.com) — For the first time ever, Safari Club International Foundation (SCI Foundation) is hosting an online auction to sell two highly prized Alaska Governor’s Permits. The first Alaska Governor’s Permit is an opportunity to hunt a Kenai Mountains Caribou (Barren Ground). The second Alaska Governor’s Permit is for the chance to hunt a free-ranging Plains Bison from the coveted Delta Bison Herd.

“SCI Foundation is excited to host our first online auction for big-game species to increase conservation funding,” said SCI Foundation President, Joe Hosmer. “The hallmark of SCI Foundation’s conservation programs has been that we successfully get financial resources to the agencies and personnel who can make the greatest positive impact for wildlife management. We do not carve out administrative costs, rather dedicating the dollars raised for legitimate research for the big-game species we are so passionate about.”

The auctions are NOW OPEN at www.LiveAuctionWorld.com and will remain open until June 30, 2013. The Alaska Governor’s Permits are for the 2013-14 season.

“SCI Foundation is proud to work with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game to offer these unique Governor’s Permits to serious hunter conservationists. We know that the funds we generate will be used in the management of the respective species for the enjoyment of future generations,” concluded Hosmer.

Details of the two hunts follow.

Method of take is rifle, muzzleloader or bow. The Delta Bison herd is approximately 370 animals, with 56 bulls for every 100 cows. Recent hunters’ success has been 60-70%. This tag will allow you to hunt the Delta Bison herd during the open dates until a Bison has been harvested. The Delta herd is present on public, private, and military land during the season. Permission must be obtained from landowners to hunt private land and must have a Recreation Access Permit to access military land. The hunter must complete a hunter orientation either online through the Alaska Department of Fish and Game website or in person at the Delta Area Office and the certificate of completion must be carried during the hunt. Kenai Mountains Alaskan Barren Ground Caribou

Here is an outstanding opportunity to hunt the Kenai Mountains of Alaska for barren ground caribou. Funds generated from the purchase will be used for on-the-ground wildlife conservation efforts by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Method of take is rifle. The hunt area can be accessed by foot from the Sterling Highway, Seward Highway, or Palmer Creek Road in Hope. The season is open from the August 13th to December 31, 2013. Early in the season caribou are dispersed in small groups throughout the hunt area. With the onset of the rut in mid to late September, the caribou generally congregate near the headwaters of Big Indian Creek and around American Pass. These areas are a 10+ mile hike from a road, so hiring a horse packer may be advised. Snowfall starts as early as late September, but usually holds off until late October. This auction is for a hunting tag only; no accommodations, meals, outfitting arrangements, licenses, etc. are included and all further costs are the responsibility of the buyer. Contact the Chugach National Forest Staff for hunter access details at (907) 743-9500.
